ABU DHABI, 6th May, 2017 (WAM) -- Emirates Metrology Institute (EMI), part of Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), participated in the half-yearly meeting of members of the Gulf Association for Metrology (GULFMET) hosted by Emirates Authority for Standardisation & Metrology (ESMA) in Abu Dhabi.

Held for the first time in Abu Dhabi since GULFMETs establishment, the meeting drew the participation of representatives from leading National Metrology Institutes (NMIs).

The meeting provided GULFMET General Assembly members and metrology experts from leading national metrology institutes an opportunity to meet during the sessions of the Gulfmet Technical Committees and General Assembly and present the progress of their institutes and Gulfmet. Participants also discussed the challenges in metrology and proposed solutions and next steps to be taken to address these challenges.

GULFMET comprises NMIs from the UAE, KSA, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Yemen and Turkey.

Mohammed Helal Al Balooshi, Director of Marketing and Communications at Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, said: "We are delighted to take part in the half-yearly meeting of GULFMET. This meeting is convened in line with our priority to coordinate efforts and promote collaboration among NMIs in the area of legal metrology - one of the key enablers of quality infrastructure." "The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for the representatives of national metrology institutes to share experiences and best practices in the area of metrology, and discuss various topics related to the development of national metrology sector and related activities in GULFMET member states," he stated.

"EMI highlighted the UAEs achievements in developing national metrology capabilities and enhancing the efficiency of laboratories to cope with the industrial growth. This allowed the UAE to build advanced metrology infrastructure and extensive expertise in different domains of metrology," Al Balooshi added.

During the meeting, Gulfmet General Assembly (GA) approved the decisions of the relevant technical committees and elected Eng. Mohammed Al Mulla, Quality Manager of EMI, as the next Chair of the Gulfmet Technical Committee for Quality.

Gulfmet General Assembly approved the research project that has been proposed and be presented by EMI and aims to enable GULFMET members to develop metrology standards and methodologies.
