DUBAI – His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya, led his country’s celebration of its Expo 2020 Dubai National Day today (16 February), with a host of activities showcasing the African nation’s rich culture, creativity and economic diversity throughout the week.

HE Uhuru Kenyatta was welcomed by His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai.

HE Sheikh Nahayan said: “Kenya’s participation at Expo 2020 Dubai gives us an insight into its vast economic potential, featuring its key sectors, which include agriculture, innovation and tourism. It also presents the country’s future plans, innovations and the achievements of its hardworking people.

“The relationship between the UAE and Kenya has grown exponentially since its establishment in the early 1980s, and, through this Expo and beyond, we are keen to explore new frameworks for cooperation, and exchange expertise in a multitude of areas of priority to our two countries.”

HE Uhuru Kenyatta said: “Kenya is very keen to build and strengthen existing relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council states and with all participants during this Expo 2020 Dubai. We seek to harness all the opportunities offered by this Expo to build new business relations, to attract new investment, as well as to bring tourists to enjoy Kenya and its renowned attractions.

“Today, I want to continue to extend the love and appreciation [Kenya has for the UAE], and to commit our continued partnership and cooperation with this country and the Gulf region, which is aimed at ensuring our two regions continue to grow and prosper in the days to come. It is my pleasure to welcome all of you to join us in celebrating Kenya’s richness and our diversity. We will be showcasing our cultural diversity through song, dance, cuisine and our fashion throughout the week.”

Kenya’s National Day celebrations kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony at Al Wasl Plaza that included the playing of the national anthem and a vibrant dance performance by the Bomas Harambee Dancers, which took onlookers on a visual and auditory journey across the country and represented the beauty and diversity of Kenyan traditional music and dances.

Later today, Al Wasl will host another spectacular and colourful live performance of Kenya’s traditional music and dance of Kenya, performed by the country’s celebrated national dance company Ngoma za Kenya.

The country will also host a business forum at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Business Connect Centre, highlighting the abundant opportunities across Kenya and encouraging thought-provoking discussions on key issues and investment opportunities.

Located in the Opportunity District, the Kenya Pavilion, under the theme ‘Feel the Energy’, takes visitors on a journey from the East African country’s agricultural and economic potential to its innovation and industry sectors, and to the hospitality and creativity of the Kenyan people.

Against the backdrop of Kenya’s Vision 2030 aimed at transforming the country into an industrialised trade hub in Africa and providing a high quality of life for all its citizens in a clean and safe environment the country is working towards attracting foreign investment from the Gulf region, and showcasing its diverse tourist attractions throughout the six months of this exciting global event.

National and Honour Days at Expo 2020 Dubai are moments to celebrate each of Expo 2020 Dubai’s 200-plus International Participants, shining a light on their culture and achievements and showcasing their pavilions and programming.

Running until 31 March 2022, Expo 2020 Dubai invites visitors from across the planet to join the making of a new world in a six-month celebration of human creativity, innovation, progress and culture.
