DOHA (Zawya Dow Jones)--European planemaker Airbus said Monday Etihad Airways has canceled a $2.2 billion order for 7 of its A350-1000s, the latest setback to the delayed twin-engined long range aircraft.

"I can confirm Etihad has canceled seven A350-1000s," said an Airbus spokesman, adding the Abu Dhabi government-owned airline still had 12 of the aircraft on order.

In January Etihad reduced firm orders for the A350-1000 from 25 to 19.

Etihad couldn't immediately reached for comment.

In June, Airbus, a unit of European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co. NV (EAD.FR), or EADS, said it would increase the size and power of the A350-1000, delaying the aircraft's launch to 2017 from 2015.

Chief Executive Tom Enders has said there may be "short-term" issues regarding discussions with existing A350-1000 customers.
