Mary Coughlan, Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, Leads Delegation for Discussions with Gulf Telecommunications Giant

Doha, Qatar: Senior executives from Qatar Telecom QSC ("Qtel") (Ticker: QTEL.QA), have met with a delegation of leading technology companies from Ireland, led by the Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) of Ireland, Ms. Mary Coughlan, to review potential areas of cooperation.

Participants in the Trade Mission included Clare Dunne, Assistant Secretary General in the Department of Enterprise; Tom Russell, Irish Ambassador to the GCC; and Frank Ryan, CEO, Enterprise Ireland, Dublin, and they were received by Dr. Nasser Marafih, Chief Executive Officer of Qtel

The meeting was organized as part of the Enterprise Ireland Trade Mission to Qatar to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

Dr. Nasser Marafih, CEO of Qtel, said: "This was an extremely interesting opportunity to meet with a range of leading companies to explore the potential working together in the future. Ireland has placed a great deal of emphasis on encouraging innovation and development in its high-tech industries, and has developed an interesting track record in the field of telecommunications."

Qtel has set itself the target of developing into one of the top 20 telecommunications companies in the world by 2020. While its strategy sees the company increasing its stake in its target markets of the Middle East, North Africa, Asian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia, partnerships and technology exchanges with international organizations are an intrinsic part of its growth plan.

"There was a high level of interest among participants in this Trade Mission to meet with Qtel, based on the company's growing international reputation as both a technological pioneer and a telecommunications industry giant of the future," said Frank Ryan, CEO, Enterprise Ireland, Dublin.

"Ireland has a number of companies that are pushing the technology boundaries in the areas of convergence, advanced messaging and mobile services, and working with a far-sighted globally-focused company like Qtel would be enormously beneficial," he added.
