Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia has reduced its holdings of US treasury bonds to $130.3 billion in April, hitting the lowest level in eight months compared to $130 billion in August 2020, according to official data on Wednesday.

The holdings shrank by $500 million on a monthly basis from $130.8 billion in March.

Year-on-year (YoY), the Kingdom’s holdings of US treasuries rose by 3.99% or $5 billion in April 2021 from $125.3 billion in the same month last year.

The country has also reduced the holdings by 4.5% or $6.1 billion during the first four months of 2021 when compared to the $136.4 billion registered in December 2020.

Saudi Arabia ranked the 14th worldwide investor in the US treasury bonds in April this year, while Japan topped the list with $1.27 trillion worth of holdings.

At the regional level, the Kingdom advanced the Arab countries, followed by Kuwait and the UAE with holdings worth $45.8 billion and $43.7 billion, respectively.
