The Dubai Police launched the 'Zayed Knights' initiative in partnership with Meydan, the equestrian and entertainment complex, as part of the Year of Zayed 2018.

The initiative will offer horse riding training for UAE nationals, for a period of eight weeks per trainee. At the end of the foundation stage, each trainee also gets a certificate from a British horseriding organisation.

Nationals can avail the training at several centres: The Al Aweer and Al Qusais police stables; Dubai Police Academy; and Emirates Equestrian Centre in Sayh Al-Salam.

Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, said that the force is focused on implementing the initiative in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The programme aims to involve members of the community, achieving one of the visions of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai police for the Criminal Investigation Department, said that the integrated plan is in place for the horse riding training sessions with the Dubai Police.

Saeed bin Humaid Mattar Al Tayer, Meydan chairman, said: "Our cooperation and partnership with the Dubai Police is always a result of their participation in the successful security coverage of all equestrian events, including the Dubai World Cup. With this initiative, we are activating the role of community partnership with the government sector."

Al Tayer added that Sheikh Zayed placed great importance on equestrian activities since the UAE's founding. He established his own stables for the early breeding and care of horses, in order to preserve the unique breed of Arabian horses. Domestically and internationally, he encouraged the ownership and improvement of horse breeds and abilities.
