Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (ADPower) announced the signing of an MoU with the UAE Ministry of Education, whereby its recently announced subsidiary, Abu Dhabi Energy Services (ADES), will explore the implementation of energy efficiency programs in schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, reinforcing ADPower’s alignment with the UAE’s sustainability objectives and Abu Dhabi’s Demand Side Management and Energy Rationalization Strategy 2030.

The signing ceremony occurred during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), and was witnessed by H.E. Hussain Ibrahim Al Hammadi, UAE Minister of Education, and H.E. Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri, Chairman of ADPower. The MoU was signed by H.E. Eng. Abdulrahman Al Hammadi, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Education, and Mr. Jasim Husain Thabet, CEO and Managing Director of ADPower.

Today’s announcement is the first major milestone for the newly launched company. The MoU allows ADES to explore opportunities for water and electricity efficiency programs in the Ministry’s facilities.  As part of this effort, ADES would conduct surveys and analysis to assess consumption patterns and propose and implement effective conservation and cost-saving solutions. This would include the potential for retrofitting buildings with systems that assist in achieving greater energy and water efficiency levels. The collaboration is also designed to positively influence individual behaviours by raising awareness of water and electricity consumption.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Mr. Jasim Husain Thabet said: “We are pleased to announce our collaboration with the Ministry as we jointly explore a range of opportunities designed to drive energy efficiency across Abu Dhabi’s schools. This MoU is the first of many opportunities for ADPower’s new subsidiary. As the energy-savings market develops, ADES will continue to work with both public and private sector partners to implement programs that are environmentally friendly and economically sound.”

H.E. Eng. Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, commented: “This Memorandum of Understanding represents our modern vision for a sustainable Emirati school system, where best practices in sustainability and energy efficiency are standard practice. It is the first step to realising this vision, which we expect will help drive significant reductions in water and energy consumption in schools, as well as influence individuals to be more conscious when it comes to their consumption.”

His Excellency added: “The Ministry of Education has emphasized the importance of the environment and sustainability to our students and school community, educating them on their impact on the environment and the steps we can all take to help reduce waste and increase efficiency. We have achieved this through collaborations with local environmental agencies and authorities to build a sustainable culture within the school community. I would like to highlight the strategic importance of our collaboration with Abu Dhabi Energy Services Company, as it will make our operations more efficient, supporting the UAE’s sustainability agenda and Abu Dhabi's Demand Side Management and Energy Rationalisation Strategy 2030.”

ADPower announced the launch of ADES during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The company aims to support the growth of the energy services market and meet the increasing need for energy-efficient solutions in Abu Dhabi. The launch of ADES serves as an important milestone in ADPower’s mandate to transform the Emirate’s water and electricity sector into an efficient, reliable, sustainable, value-generating system that empowers excellence, delivers value and is fit for the future.
