Dubai:   Education experts at the India-UAE Partnership Summit 2018 (IUPS) which concluded last week said that new visa rules announced by the UAE Cabinet will give impetus to the opening of more specialized Indian higher education entities in the country.

An IUPS report by the advisory partner of IUPS 2018, Crowe, said that already three specialized Indian higher education entities were in the pipeline to open new campuses in the UAE, increasing the presence of Indian educational institutions in the UAE. These entities include Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in Dubai, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and Manipal University Medical College in Abu Dhabi.

Speaking at one of the sessions at the IUPS 2018, Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman, Board of Directors and Director General, KHDA said the Indian student community in Dubai was to the tune of 96,000, which is 33 per cent of the total student population of 290,000.

“Education was one of the significant themes of IUPS 2018, considering the robust presence of Indian educational institutions in the UAE which is set to increase in the higher education sector. The excellent infrastructure in the UAE across the campuses in the UAE coupled with the new residency visa rules will fuel the education sector,” said Mr. Ram Buxani, President of the Business Leaders Forum (BLF).

IUPS was organized by BLF, a unit of India Trade & Exhibition Centre m.e. in association with Indian Embassy-Abu Dhabi & Consulate General of India-Dubai and UAE Ministry of Economy as strategic partners.

“There is tremendous scope for India and UAE to expand cooperation in the education sector and the new visa regime which grants five-year residency visas for students studying in the UAE and 10-year visas for exceptional students will be a major game changer for the education sector, as it will attract more investments from across the world, and India will be a major contributor in this,´ said Mr. Sudesh Aggarwal, Board Member of BLF, Chairman of the IUPS Organising Committee and Chairman of India Trade and Exhibition Centre (ITEC),

“In the school segment, Indian curriculum schools have a 31 per cent share in Dubai and it is expected that this will increase in the coming years with the proactive steps taken by the UAE Government. Moreover investments in the pipeline in higher education will significantly change the landscape of education in the India which in turn will increase the influx of students from abroad,” said Sripriya Kumaria, Secretary General of BLF.
