Dubai, UAE: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received the UAE Ideas Award for promoting voluntary and humanitarian work. DEWA won the award for its Innovation Centre at the Dubai Rehabilitation Centre for People of Determination. DEWA was honoured at the 6th UAE Ideas Conference & Award, which was organised by Dubai Quality Group. The conference was held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Emirates Airline & Group and Honourary Patron of Dubai Quality Group. DEWA’s representatives received the award from HE Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation of Ras Al Khaimah, and Fatima Butti Al Muhairi, Chairwoman of Dubai Quality Group.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, expressed his delight with the award. He commended the efforts of the Dubai Quality Group in developing and promoting quality practices and organisational excellence.

“Establishing the innovation centre is part of DEWA’s strategy to support the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote social services, and in adherence with the ‘My community... a city for everyone’ initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a city that is friendly for people of determination by 2020. We are committed to consolidating the principles of social responsibility by launching social and developmental initiatives and projects, to meet the needs of all society, especially people of determination,” said Al Tayer.

The innovation centre also supports the National Innovation Strategy to make the UAE one of the most innovative nations in the world, and the Dubai Innovation Strategy to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world. It also supports DEWA’s CSR strategy and its efforts to support the Year of Giving. It reflects its efforts to include people of determination within society as productive and creative people,” added Al Tayer.

DEWA’s Innovation Centre, which was opened last February at the Dubai Rehabilitation Centre for People of Determination in Al Qusais, provides over 150 students with disabilities with the required training on modern technologies. It ensures a positive innovative educational environment, empowering them to get engaged in all kinds of social activities to become creative and innovative individuals. DEWA aims to provide students with a self-learning experience in which they can deal with advanced devices like robots. This enhances their abilities in creativity and innovation, and provides students with educational opportunities to enter the job market.
