• Abarth Club Dubai is 1st in the Middle East to become part of the global ‘Scorpionship’ community

Dubai, UAE: Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA), parent company of Abarth, has formally recognised the Abarth Club Dubai, the Middle East’s first official Abarth enthusiasts’ organisation. Already a passionate group who gathered regularly to celebrate their beloved Italian sports cars, the club now enjoys official status, and can be found on Abarth’s global club locator for the whole world to see.

Originally a small gathering of UAE-based enthusiasts, the club has today grown to a membership of almost 50 dedicated ‘Abarthisti’ under the leadership of Abarth Club Dubai President Tamer Nabil, who founded the organisation with like-minded Abarth owners at the end of 2019. They join the global Scorpionship community, which was founded in 2016 and has today grown into a network of over 77 clubs and over 110,000 members worldwide.

The newly recognised Abarth Club Dubai will now enjoy exclusive privileges only available to the Scorpionship community, such as track days, club events, and even visits to the home of Abarth in Turin, Italy. The club’s most recent gathering was an exclusive Abarth Track Day at the Dubai Autodrome, where Abarth is the circuit’s ‘Official Vehicle Partner’ for 2020. As Abarth seeks to build its legacy in the Middle East, working with dedicated and passionate brand ambassadors like the Abarth Club Dubai will be invaluable in spreading the word about the excitement and performance that Abarth sports cars have to offer.

The Abarth Club Dubai secured their newfound status by working with National Auto, the exclusive distributor for Fiat and Abarth vehicles in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, where many of the members acquired their Abarth 595 Competizione. Steve Molyneux, General Manager of National Auto, said: “It gives us immense pleasure to reward the passion and dedication of our “Abarthisti” with an officially-recognised Abarth Club in the UAE to call their own. The Abarth community in the UAE is a very close-knit one, and we maintain a strong relationship with our Abarth owners. Through this newfound status, we will be able to strengthen the Abarth community and offer them more exclusive benefits than ever before.”

Commenting on the new status of the Dubai club, Jo Moursi, Head of Italian Brands at FCA Middle East, said: “Style, performance, and a motorsports heritage stretching back over 70 years - these are all qualities that combine to create the unique thrill of driving an Abarth sports car. This thrill is what inspires the passion and enthusiasm shown by the Abarth Club Dubai, as it rightly takes its place amongst the global Scorpionship community. We are thrilled to have an official group of dedicated Abarthisti coming together to share their love for this very special brand. Having a base in the UAE means a club with a rich multicultural and diverse background, reflecting the incredible range of cultures and nationalities that makes the Club even more vibrant.”

National Auto, part of the Al Ghandi Auto Group, has been the dealership for Abarth in Dubai and the Northern Emirates since 2018, and is fully equipped to supply their customers in the UAE with the limited editions, bespoke packages, spare parts and accessories to provide the ultimate Abarth experience.

Abarth

It was in 1949 that Carlo Abarth, after a career racing motorcycles and cars, founded Abarth & C with Guido Scagliarini. The first vehicle produced was the 204 A, based on the Fiat 1100. It immediately won the 1100 Sport Championship as well as Formula 2. Alongside racing, the company started to produce tuning kits that improved the performance, power and speed of standard vehicles.

Over the course of the next two decades, Carlo Abarth’s performance modified cars achieved success in every competition and set many records, and the Abarth brand became synonymous with sport, tuning and performance.

Abarth’s union with Fiat came in 1971, with Fiat’s acquisition of Abarth & C S.p.A. Under Fiat ownership, Abarth became the Fiat Group's racing department, and went on to produce some of history’s most legendary racing machines, including the Fiat 124 Abarth Rally and 131 Abarth, and the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo Group 5 racing car and the Lancia Rally 037 Group B rally car.
