Muscat: Overseas Filipino Workers based in Oman who were stranded because of Typhoon Mangkhut will receive a compensation of $100, the Philippines Embassy in Muscat announced.

However, the embassy’s online statement added that the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) would receive the compensation only under certain circumstances.

For instance, the offer is valid only for people whose flights to and from Manila were delayed between September 14 and 18. Moreover, the ex-gratia should be claimed before Friday.

Typhoon Mangkhut battered the Philippines and south China, and has killed at least 25 people, so far, besides causing immense damage to property.

An official statement by Philippines Embassy read: "The Philippine Embassy in Muscat informs OFWs in Oman who were stranded because of the onslaught of Super Typhoon “Ompong” (International name: Mangkhut), as their outbound or inbound flights from or to Manila were delayed for the period 14 - 18 September 2018, that the Philippine government will be providing financial assistance in the amount of One Hundred US Dollars (US$100.00)."

The embassy added that photocopies of certain documents should be submitted to claim the relief. The documents required are a copy of data page of passport, Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) or exemption, immigration stamps showing departure to or from Manila, boarding passes, ticket of cancelled or delayed flights.

"The Embassy will be accepting claims for the said financial assistance until 21 September 2018. For details and further queries, kindly call the Assistance-to-Nationals Unit of the Embassy at (968) 24605140," the embassy added.
