Swiss vertical transportation company Schindler said on Tuesday that it has been selected to deliver and install a total of 129 high-rise elevators to six office towers currently under construction in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital (NAC).

The contract was awarded by the project's general contractor China State Construction Engineering Corporate Egypt (CSCEC Egypt).

CSCEC Egypt General Manager Chang Weicai said Schindler's PORT technology will contribute vastly to the new capital’s smart and human-centric urban mobility.

The Central Business District (CBD) contract was signed in 2016 by CSCEC and Egypt's Ministry of Housing, Utilities & Urban Communities, according to information posted on Chinese company's website. With a total area of 505,000 square metres, the project consists of 20 buildings, including 12 high-rise office buildings, five high-rise apartment buildings, two luxury hotels, and a 385.8-meter-tall iconic tower, which will be the tallest in Africa.

NAC will be Egypt’s first smart city, covering 700 square kilometers in the desert east of Cairo, making it the size of Singapore, the Schinlder statement said. Designed as the country’s new administrative hub, it is expected to house 6.5 million people with official opening planned for the end of 2021.
