Al Akaria Saudi Real Estate Company (SRECO) is expected to award the design and lead consultancy contract for its $82 million (308 million Saudi Riyals) Al Narjis Hospital in Riyadh province by the fourth quarter of 2018, a source close to the project has said.

"The Expression of Interest (EOI) notice for design and lead consultancy services was issued in the first week of August 2018. The contract award is expected by mid-November 2018," the source told Thomson Reuters Projects.

He said the 300-bed hospital is due to be completed by the second quarter of 2022.

Saudi Consolidated Engineering Company (Khatib & Alami) and Saudi Consulting Services (SaudConsult) have submitted bids for the contract, officials from both firms confirmed with Thomson Reuters Projects.

The source said SRECO is expecting 11 firms to submit the tender documents but declined to reveal the names of the companies that had accepted the EOI.

Saudi Arabia-based Hanmi International is the project management consultant for the project.

In June, local English language newspaper Arab News, citing a study by consultancy firm Oxford Economics, said Saudi Arabia would need an extra 5,000 hospital beds by 2020 and 20,000 more by 2035 to meet the requirements of its growing population.
