Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has suspended all incoming and outgoing flights as well as trade services with Iran following new cases of coronavirus in the country.

On Tuesday, Oman Air and Salam Air announced the suspension of their flights starting from February 24 until further notice.

According to Oman Air, “Following the directives of Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA), Oman Air will suspend all flights to and from Tehran, the capital city of Iran, with immediate effect from February 24, 2020.

“Acceptance of bookings to and from Tehran has been immediately suspended. The health and well-being of our guests and employees remain our highest priority. All guests are advised to monitor our website and social media channels further updates.”

According to Salam Air, “Based on the decision of PACA, all flights between Iran and Oman have been suspended from Monday, February 24, 2020 till further notice.”

A number of Omani citizens in Iran arrived back at Muscat from Shiraz at 5:00 pm. And a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "The Sultanate’s embassy in Tehran also confirms that it continues to communicate with the rest to make their return arrangements in coordination with the relevant authorities in the Sultanate."

Port Operation and Management Company (MARAFI) announced on Tuesday that it will suspend the import and export of goods by Iranian boats in Khasab Port. Statement issued by MARAFI said, "As a precautionary measure, the import and export of goods by Iranian boats in Khasab Port will be suspended as of Wednesday, February 26, 2020.”

MARAFI will implement this suspension starting from today, Wednesday, as a precautionary measure due to the outbreak of the disease.
