Iraq and Turkey are engaged in discussions about road and rail connectivity between the two countries, an Iraqi government official told Zawya Projects.

Fatuma Al-Musawi, director of media Department and government communication for the Ministry of Transportation said the discussions were held by the Iraqi Minister of Transportation, Nasser Hussein Al-Shibli and the Turkey's Ambassador to Iraq, Fatih Yildiz.

Al-Musawi noted that Iraq and Turkey have enjoyed strong commercial ties despite challenges like the Turkey's military operations inside Iraq's Kurdistan Region.

The Iraqi Republic Railways (IRR), affiliated to the Ministry of Transportation, had announced last year its readiness to restart work on a railway line connecting Iraq, Syria and Turkey.
