Kuwait has pre-qualified three Chinese companies and one local firm for Northern Jurassic gas projects worth nearly $1.5 billion, a local newspaper said on Monday.

The Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) agreed to a request by the state-owned Kuwaiti Oil Company (KOC) to pre-qualify the Kuwaiti-based Gas and Oilfield Services Company, and three local agents for China's Sinopec Engineering, Sinopec Luoyang Engineering, and Jereh Oil and Gas Company, the Arabic language daily Alanba said, quoting responsible oil sources in the OPEC member.

The paper said CAPT rejected a KOC request for the pre-qualification of two other firms vying for the project but it did not identify those firms.

The Jurassic Production Facility 4 (JPF-4) and JPF-5, part of the emirate's ongoing hydrocarbon development schemes, would cost nearly $1.5 billion and produce 50,000 barrels of oil a day and 150 million standard cubic feet of gas a day.
