The number of tourists who visited to the ancient city of Petra during the past three months witnessed a 20 per cent increase compared to the same period of last year, official figures showed.

According to Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Mohammad Nawafleh, a total of 121,559 tourists of different nationalities have visited the ancient Nabataean city during the past three months compared with 101,638 for the same period in 2015.

PDTRA figures also revealed that the number of Jordanian visitors to the Red rose city of Petra rose by 45 per cent during the past three months in 2016 compared to the same month of last year.
