Dubai, UAE: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) announced that a new shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has arrived in Dubai.

The DHA distributed the new batch across DHA health centres, which are dedicated to administering the COVID-19 vaccine in Dubai.

The DHA begun its vaccination campaign last December, where it started administering the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. As the campaign expanded, the authority began providing the Sinopharm and Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccines as well, in order to provide the public with an opportunity to choose between various types of vaccinations.

Dr Farida Al Khaja, CEO of DHA’s Clinical Support Services and Nursing Sector and Chairperson of the COVID-19 Vaccination Steering Committee, said that the vaccination campaign is currently targeting Emirati and resident elders, people with chronic disease who have a valid Dubai visa, frontliners and vital sector workers in both the public and private sector. She stressed that priority will be given to elders who are above 60-years-old.

Al Khaja said that targeted groups can book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment by calling the DHA Contact Centre on 800342. She pointed out that appointments for frontliners and vital sector workers will be scheduled in coordination and cooperation with government departments and the institutions in which they work.

Dr Al Khaja stressed the DHA's great interest in simplifying all procedures for obtaining the vaccines and facilitating the journey of those targeted for vaccination, in addition to its keenness to provide a safe and healthy environment in all its medical centres and facilities.

About the Dubai Health Authority:

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) was created, in June 2007, by Law 13 issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, with an expanded vision to include strategic oversight for the complete health sector in Dubai and enhance private sector engagement.

Prior to the establishment of the DHA, the Department of Health and Medical Services, which was established in 1973, was the functioning authority that almost exclusively focused on health service delivery.

In May 2018, H.H Sheikh Mohammed, issued Law No. (6) of 2018 of the DHA. The new Law further enables the DHA to achieve its objectives including regulating medical services in Dubai, enhancing competitiveness and transparency, improving medical services and products based on international best practices and achieving the sector’s objectives according to approved strategic plans.

H.H Sheikh Mohammed also issued Decree No. 17 of 2018 establishing subsidiaries of the DHA: the Dubai Healthcare Corporation and Dubai Health Insurance Corporation to further enhance healthcare services in Dubai and enable DHA to fulfil its responsibilities and obligations.

Three new strategic sectors were also added as part of the decree; they include Strategy and Corporate Development, Health Regulation, and Shared Support Services.

In addition to overseeing the health sector for the Emirate of Dubai, the DHA also focuses on providing services through DHA healthcare facilities including Latifa, Dubai, Rashid and Hatta Hospitals, its 12 primary healthcare centers, 17 medical fitness centers and its 6 specialty centers.
