A new 25,000sq. ft multi-faith Hindu temple will come up in Jebel Ali by mid-2020. The temple will be an extension of the Sindhi Guru Darbar Temple in Souq Al Baniyan, Bur Dubai, said Raju Shroff, one of the trustees of the SindhI Guru Darbar Temple.

This temple is different from the BAPS Abu Dhabi Hindu Temple.

The new temple will be constructed adjacent to the Guru Nanak Darbar in Jebel Ali, making the locality a multi-religious corridor in Dubai. "Once complete, there will be several churches, a Sikh Guru Nanak Darbar, and a Hindu temple in the same location," explained Shroff.

With construction of the temple set to begin by March 2020, board members partook in a ground-breaking ceremony last week. "The 25,000 square foot temple will be built at an estimated cost of Dh75 million," said Shroff. It will be a two-storey structure, two basement floors, and plenty of parking.

The design for the temple was provided by an Indian architecture company called Temple Architects, specialising in temple design and architecture. The temple has already received permissions from the Community Development Authority. "Currently, we are in the process of getting approvals for construction from Dubai Municipality, so we can start construction in March," Shroff added.

The Sindhi Guru Darbar was gifted land by the Dubai government for this process in 2018 and the architectural design work began in June 2018. "This has been in the works ever since," he said. Shroff said there would be several prayer halls, a room for langar (communal kitchen), space for large events and community service events, weddings, and condolence meetings in the new temple.
