Launching in September 2020, The Basement will feature dynamic voice acting, realistic sound mixing and cinematic music scoring to evoke a sense of noir in an audio-first approach

Dubai: Finyal Media, a regional podcast network that focuses on storytelling podcasts to cater to young Arabs across MENA, has announced the upcoming launch of The Basement, the region’s first original scripted drama podcast series. The episodes, delivered in Arabic, are a gripping fictional mystery thriller, centred around Fadi Younan a washed-up YouTube star who is looking for a way to reclaim his fame and success in the Arab world, using a box of long lost tapes he stumbles upon in a basement.

Set up as a podcast within a podcast, The Basement will launch in September 2020 and will be available on all podcasting platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Anghami, Deezer, Spotify and many more. In the series the main protagonist of the show, Fadi, starts a podcast himself where he plays the tapes he has discovered in the basement and discusses the mystery with his audience. As Fadi’s podcast show grows in popularity, trouble begins to arise as a result…the person who made the tapes, is listening.

The Basement will also feature dynamic voice acting, realistic sound mixing, and cinematic music scoring, which will evoke a sense of Noir in a new, audio-first approach tailored specifically for the growing podcast platform.

Commenting on the new show, Leila Hamadeh, Co-Founder and CEO of Finyal Media, said: “We’re excited to launch the MENA region’s first original scripted drama series for the podcast medium next month. The drama podcast format, which plays out like a movie or a TV series is really growing in popularity, and it lends itself well to engaging storytelling that makes this particular genre of podcasts so captivating. Our new show is a first for the region and we’re excited to be leading the charge with the launch of this series created for Arab youth in the Middle East.

Mshari Alonaizy, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer, added: “It’s been our mission to create content that really resonates with the Arabic youth of the region. With The Basement we are looking to engage with our audience in a different way, to create something new, exciting and different that will provide lots of twists and turns, keeping listeners in suspense until the very end.

As specialists in the storytelling podcast space, Finyal Media specialises in producing fictional series on the podcast format and focuses on bridging the gap in the market to create engaging, relatable content to connect with the younger generation.

The Basement will be available on all podcasting platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Anghami, Deezer, Spotify and many more in September 2020.
