BEIRUT: Beirut's State Prosecutor for Appeals Judge Ziad Abu Haidar Wednesday charged the company "Business Bay International" and its director with negligence in connection to the Beirut Port fire that erupted last week.

Business Bay's director, Akram Khoshen, was charged along with suspects Raed Nasr, Mahmoud al-Khatib and Mohammed Idlibi, a security source told The Daily star.

They committed negligence and a lack of precaution which caused a fire in the port, destroyed public and private property, polluted the environment and created panic among citizens, Haidar said.

Details of the company's responsibility regarding the fire are not immediately clear.

The suspects have been referred to first investigative judge, requesting that investigations be conducted and the issuance of necessary arrest warrants.

A massive fire broke out in a warehouse in Beirut Ports duty free section on Sept. 10, near the site of the Aug. 4 explosion that devastated half the capital and killed at least 192 people. The warehouse that caught fire contained oil and tire shipments.

All 25 suspects identified by a probe into the explosion are now in the custody of Lebanese authorities.
