OPEC member Kuwait intends to issue a tender for consultancy services for Phase 3 of its Shagaya renewable energy project, a local newspaper said on Tuesday.

The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP), which promotes joint public-private ventures, will issue the tender in the next two weeks, the Arabic language daily Alanba said, quoting “responsible” sources.

KAPP will issue the tender through the Central Agency for Public Tenders and the contract involves “providing consultancy services for phase 3 of Shagaya,” it said.

Phase 3 will have the capacity to produce 2,000 megawatts using multiple technologies, including photovoltaic panels, concentrated thermal power and wind energy, it added.

The Shagaya Park was launched in 2012 and was originally expected to host 2 gigawatts (GW) of capacity by 2030, across three phases. Kuwait recently decided to add a fourth phase to the park and raise its 2030 target at the site to 4 GW.
