Kuwait pre-qualifies 31 firms for Al-Hamadi Township

The project is located south of capital Kuwait City

Kuwait has pre-qualified 31 companies to bid for the re-construction of Al-Ahmadi township which belongs to the state-owned Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), a local newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The Central Agency for Public Tenders will issue tenders for the project Phase 2-2 on July 10, the Arabic language daily Al-Nahar said.

"Tenders for the project will be issued on July 10 at KOC's request after 31 companies from Kuwait and other countries were qualified to bid," it said.

The paper did not provide project details but officials said last year it involves the construction of nearly 2,000 houses to replace old units that had been built just before KOC began oil operations several decades ago.

The pre-qualified firms comprise Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company, Burhan International Construction of Kuwait, the Kuwait Arab Contractors Company, Canar Trading and Contracting Co of Kuwait, the Kuwaiti Al-Ghanim International General Trading and Contracting Company, United Gulf Construction Co of Kuwait, Khali Al-Kharafi and Brothers Co of Kuwait, KCC Engineering and Contracting Co of Kuwait, and Kuwait's Bayan National Contracting Co.

The project, located nearly 40 kilometres south of the capital Kuwait City, also includes construction of shops, car parks, mosques, restaurants, and sport facilities.
