KUWAIT CITY - Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) has imported up to 7.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas during the past three years from British Petroleum, Shell and Qatargas, reports Annahar daily quoting oil sources.

The sources pointed out that the import of gas from Qatargas, British Petroleum and Shell was able to protect Kuwait from any harmful environmental emissions caused by the burning of diesel and kerosene and the evidence of this is the disappearance of the ‘black cloud’ which used to cover the Kuwait atmosphere every year.

The sources added talked about the use of gas conversion and cooling technology and then converting it domestically to the Ministry of Electricity saying Kuwait is the first country to use that step which has saved the state treasury up to $5 billion.

The contracts vary between 6 and 5 years in quantities of up to 32 consignments per year, valued at $12 billion with Shell for 6 years, and $3 billion for 5 years with BP. The shipments are imported from Qatar at 80,000 tons per shipment.
