AMMAN The Ministry of Water and Irrigation on Tuesday signed an agreement to implement and operate the desert wells project in the Al Jafr region using solar energy, at a value of JD155,000 provided as a grant by UNICEF, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abul Saud said during the signing that the agreement aims to provide additional quantities of water, improve water supply, reduce water operating costs, provide water canopies and drinking water for livestock and improve the livelihoods of people in the Badia.

The minister explained that this agreement includes operating the exploratory Al Jafr well using solar energy, building a fence around the well area, building bases for solar cells and constructing barns for livestock near the well. It also aims to provide the necessary lighting, a guard room, a chlorine chamber and a water tank, in addition to an umbrella for filling water tanks, Abul Saud said.

These actions come within the measures of the Ministry of Water aimed at developing remote areas and providing water for different uses.
