Iraq intends to build six new housing complexes in the South-Central Al-Diwaniyah governorate within plans to tackle a widening housing supply gap, the official Arabic language daily Al-Sabah said on Sunday.

The Al-Diwaniya Investment Commission is currently supervising the construction of five housing complexes which will be allocated to citizens at affordable prices, it said, quoting the Commission's Chairman Razzak Shibr.

"We have plans to construct six new housing complexes in the governorate while five other complexes are under way," Shibr said.

The Commission also has plans to build more housing complexes in the next period in a bid to tackle the housing crisis in the governorate, he added without providing details of those projects.
