Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communication has imposed an OMR10 (Dh95) fee for empty foreign land transport vehicles including heavy trucks and buses upon entry into the country.

The move came after the ministry issued a decision banning foreign land transport vehicles, including empty buses and trucks, with non-GCC crews from entering the country to transport passengers or goods.

It also bans them from practicing any commercial transport activities in the country as well as loading goods on the way out of the country without prior permission. The decision also bans foreign land transport company vehicles and their crews to stay in Oman for more than seven days

without authorisation from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Royal Oman Police (ROP).

The ban exempts the crew of the citizens of the GCC countries.

According to the authorities, the decision aims to regulate the land transport in Oman after many violations registered by the buses and heavy vehicles owned by foreign companies that entered the country earlier.
