Dubai’s low-cost airline flydubai is providing free travel insurance, which includes COVID-19 cover in a bid to boost traveller confidence.

The multi-risk travel insurance policies have been automatically applied to the airline’s tickets purchased since December 1st.

Hamad Obaidullah, chief commercial officer at flydubai, said: “The safety and health of our passengers and crew remain our top priority. Multi-risk travel insurance will give passengers greater travel confidence knowing that they will be taken care of at every step of their journey.

“We expect demand for travel to increase during the upcoming winter holiday season, and this will give travellers more peace of mind. "

The free insurance is the result of a collaboration between the airline and AIG Insurance.

It includes comprehensive coverage against COVID-19 for return and one-way trips outside the traveller’s country of residence.

As well as COVID-19 related medical and quarantine-related expenses, the policy covers personal belongings, travel inconveniences, cancellations related to airspace closures, personal accidents and winter sports.

The announcement by flydubai follows a similar policy launched by Emirates Airline last month.

Following the normalisation of relations between the UAE and Israel, flydubai also announced flights to Tel Aviv, twice daily, commencing on November 26.
