SHARJAH: The eighth edition of the Sharjah Ramadan Majlis, organised by the Sharjah Press Club of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, is all set to open tomorrow (Monday, May 13) at Al Majaz Amphitheatre with an engaging agenda featuring a host of vital issues and interesting topics facing society, along with a bouquet of attractive accompanying events, prizes and contests.

The Sharjah Ramadan Majlis, held in partnership with the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (Sharjah Radio and TV), is set to take up a broad range of strategic issues -- from religion, society, health and arts and culture to sports -- with the participation of a number of leading specialists and experts from across the UAE and the Arab world.

The Sharjah Ramadan Majlis for the first time also includes a special exhibition on the historic journey of the media in the Arab world in partnership with the Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage. The exhibition will shine light on the beginnings of the Press in the Arab world by showcasing original copies of the first newspapers and bulletins published from the region including the UAE as well as rare documents and manuscripts chronicling the momentous journey of the fourth estate.

HE Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, reaffirmed the keenness of the Bureau to enrich the special evenings of the holy month with these exciting Ramadan Majlis sessions debating key issues, trends and topics that are of interest to all members of the community and contribute to meaningful dialogue between various sections of society as well as the media.

"As part of the mission of Sharjah Government Media Bureau, which is guided by the vision and leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, we reaffirm our commitment to tackle key issues and concerns before the community.”

He pointed out that this session of Sharjah Ramadan Majlis once again raises a number of issues and topics that are seldom discussed and talked about in society today. Yet they are important because of their impact on the family and society in general, he added.  The Ramadan Majlis discusses a number of issues and topics as diverse as diversity of cultures and religions, growing online addiction, children's cinema, sports and common medical misconceptions, the SGMB Director pointed out.

The first session of the Sharjah Ramadan Council, on Monday, May 13, under the theme "Nations’ Customs…Acquaintance and Convergence", is scheduled to discuss the importance of mutual respect between various cultures and the need of dealing with other cultures from a humane and civilized perspective and how individuals can help influence and reverse the culture of their societies. The session will be moderated by popular media figure Omar Al Othman.

The Sharjah Ramadan Majlis is the flagship event of the Sharjah Press Club, a subsidiary of SGB. Every year it seeks to tackle pressing issues and challenges before society and the region at large with the participation of regional leaders, government officials, ministers, influencers and intellectuals from across the UAE and the region in order to promote dialogue, knowledge and values of peaceful coexistence and reconciliation.

The Sharjah Ramadan Majlis has established itself as one of the most popular and respected global platforms and events in the region. Over the past seven years, the Ramadan Majlis sessions hosted by the Sharjah Press Club and attended by leading thinkers, government officials, ministers, intellectuals and influencers from across the region have helped tackle a gamut of vital issues, social trends and challenges facing society in the UAE and the Arab world.
