Manama: A Saudi court has sentenced Egyptian twin brothers to a combined 14 years in prison after they were found guilty of supporting terror group Daesh.

The judge in the Saudi capital Riyadh ruled a 10-year jail term for the first brother to be followed by deportation for joining Daesh, pledging allegiance to its leader and following his orders.

He was also found guilty of getting ready to commit a suicide attack inside a mosque in Saudi Arabia by using an explosive belt, Saudi daily Okaz reported on Wednesday.

According to the case documents, the Egyptian man had informed his contact point within Daesh that he was ready to carry out the attack and to record his will before his suicide in line with the group tradition.

He was also found guilty of storing on his mobile speeches promoting Daesh’s ideology and stressing the need to engage in fights and in using weapons.

His twin brother was sentenced to four years, including time already served since his arrest, for joining online groups that were disseminating news and reports about Daesh and for storing on his mobile propaganda for the operations carried out by the terror group.

The judge ordered the confiscation of his mobile and his deportation after serving the jail term.

However, both the public prosecutor and the lawyer for the defendants appealed the court verdicts.

The twins are 30 years old and have not studied beyond elementary school. They worked as blacksmiths in Saudi Arabia.
