In line with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s initiative “Egypt Makes Electronics” for boosting electronics design & manufacturing in Egypt, a source in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) said the Information Technology Industry Development Authority (ITIDA) executed three integrated electronic laboratory complexes.

Each complex contains three laboratories, namely, an Internet of Things plant, smart cities, multi-layered electronic circuit manufacturing laboratory, and an electronics prototyping laboratory, which creates an integrated environment to support the design stages of electronic systems and products. This starts from the design idea, to the design implementation and development, and then manufacturing and collecting printed boards. Then, initial prototypes of the product’s external frame or its casing are made, until the complete product is reached.

The source added that a memorandum of understanding had been signed between the MCIT to establish an internationally accredited electronic testing and certification laboratory at the industrial complex of the technological zone in Sadat City. It is considered the first laboratory inside in Arab and African region concerned with testing, checking, and approving communication equipment and electronic devices, such as mobile phones, satellites, Internet of Things sensors, radio frequency systems, and GPS trackers.

According to the source, the establishment of this lab is very effective in stimulating the local manufacture of telecommunications and electronics equipment, raising the competitiveness of local products and increasing its export opportunities. This happens through the issuance of internationally certified quality certificates for locally manufactured products. It also happens by testing and ensuring imported products from abroad comply with specifications standards, and preventing bad products from entering the local market, keeping Egyptian products competitive, without the need to send equipment to laboratories abroad for testing and certification.
