Dubai - Acacus Technologies Dubai’s very own technology startup and First Prize winner of USD 100,000 at Intense GITEX pitch showdown in 2016, is putting UAE on the global technology map. A small team of technology specialists and innovators with a vision of the future are changing the landscape of the region. Acacus is the first and only UAE startup working on launching driverless vehicles platform 2020.

Since launching their software services in 2013, their unique bespoke technology for the logistics and transportation space is already implemented by RTA and leading Airlines such as Etihad. Using mathematical combinatorics Acacus software specializes in Fleet Management, Optimized Dispatch and Automate Planning. Its machine-learning-based driver behavior and driver distraction monitoring technology have enabled Dubai Taxi to install in-vehicle driver cameras and sensory devices to capture eye movement, head tilt and driving behavior in real time. The software also specializes in location tracking and vehicle diagnostics.

At GITEX 2017, Acacus is launching the next stage of its transportation offering, a driverless delivery solution which is planned to be on roads in Dubai by 2020.  The platform for the driverless vehicles will be developed by Acacus and designed to operate on the roads of Dubai. Vehicles will be low cost and targeted towards logistics and delivery service providers that require efficient operations at a low operational cost.

Talal Ben Halim, Managing Director and Partner of the company was inspired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum vision that, future of transportation in Dubai will be the key element to become the smartest city in the world. Speaking at this year’s GITEX Technology Week, he said: “Innovation is at the heart of UAE’s rise as a global economic giant and technology will take it further. In coming years Dubai and UAE will be the hub of global technology innovators, as we take the lead in developing as well as implementing new ideas faster than any country in the world. Acacus is proud to contribute to the vision of UAE to have 25 percent of Dubai’s transportation autonomous by 2030”. 

For the trial run of this technology, Acacus is presently in talks with the Dubai RTA and Dubai Taxi Corporation on providing guidance on regulations. The first parking trial of the platform was done a week before GITEX.

As per the vision laid down by UAE, Dubai’s autonomous mobility strategy is expecting to generate Dh22 billion per year, reduce mobility spending by 44 percent, and curb demand for parking by 50 percent. Autonomous vehicles will increase productivity by 13 percent which will be achieved by reducing travel time. This technology will also help reduce accident by 12 percent.
