Dubai

A highlight for telecom operator du in the second quarter was the soft launch of its Virgin Mobile brand.

“During the period, we began a programme of pre-launch customer registration and conducted trial tests. We enrolled a few select number of UAE residents to test the product and its customer service,” said Osman Sultan, chief executive officer of du and Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC.

He said thousands of customers have been signed up to Virgin services since its launch in late May, but he did not disclose the official launch date.

“We look forward to the full commercial launch of the Virgin Mobile brand in the UAE soon, and with it, bringing a fully digital and premium customer experience. Our Virgin line of business is in early stages and revenue will start ramping up more in the next quarters,” Sultan said.

Sukhdev Singh, vice-president at market research and analysis services provider AMRB, said Virgin Mobile is a “refreshing addition” to the UAE telecom space. Given the brand’s familiarity with visitors from Europe and America, it is likely to attract more visitors from those markets.

“The brand is also trying to have a bit of premium image while being flexible at the same time,” he said.
