Dubai, UAE: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) participated in the 3rd People of Determination Happiness Forum organised by Dubai Municipality (DM) under the theme ‘Easy access,’ as part of its eagerness to share successful experiences and best practices. A number of municipalities and government organisations in the UAE participated in the forum.

During the forum, DEWA showcased its efforts, best practices, and initiatives in integrating and empowering People of Determination in society and in the work environment. DEWA provides facilities and services in all its buildings in accordance with the highest international standards that comply with the Dubai Universal Design Code. DEWA also launched several innovative and smart initiatives that facilitate their access to information in accordance with Dubai Smart Government standards.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, affirmed DEWA’s commitment to exchanging experiences and knowledge with government organisations in the UAE. This supports concerted efforts to ensure the integration among UAE’s organisations in line with the vision of the wise leadership.

“DEWA seeks to strengthen joint efforts to support the ‘National Policy to Empower People of Determination’ launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This policy aims to create a barrier-free society that ensures empowerment and a decent life for people of determination. DEWA also supports the ‘My Community…A Place for Everyone’ initiative launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, to fully transform Dubai into a friendly city for people of determination by 2020, towards achieving the UAE Centennial 2071 to make the UAE the best country in the world,”said Al Tayer.

“DEWA has made huge strides in supporting and empowering people of determination by launching several initiatives, programmes, and services, according to well-defined plans and strategies aligned with the best global practices and standards. These efforts have contributed to raising social happiness about DEWA’s role as an organisation that supports people of determination from 87% in 2013, to 94.3% in 2017,” added Al Tayer.

Al Tayer noted that DEWA launched six initiatives and provided four community sponsorships in 2017 for integration of people of determination in the community at a cost of AED 2.5 million. During 2017, DEWA achieved 95.6% employee happinessamong people of determination staff, and 93.9% for their families. Happiness rate of DEWA’s customers from people of determination reached 90.7% in 2017.

“DEWA has received many local and international awards in corporate social responsibility (CSR), including the Princess Haya Award for Special Education and the‘People of Determination Friendly Government Entity’ award at the 21st DubaiGovernment Excellence Program (DGEP) 2018. DEWA also received the MVO8000 in CSR, becoming the first government organisation in Dubai to receive this global recognition,” concluded Al Tayer.

“DEWA adopts a strategy for the happiness and inclusion of people of determination,promoting their employment and its work environment that is friendly for them whilesupporting their needs. DEWA stresses the importance of integration and happiness for people of determination in a stimulating environment that helps them display their energy and capabilities. DEWA achieved a 96% rate of conformity for its buildings and facilities in the Dubai Universal Design Code in 2017, and 92% conformity rate for its website and 9/10 for its smart app, according to the Dubai Smart Government standards in 2018,” said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, and Chairman of DEWA’s Advisory Council for People of Determination.
