WORK has begun on providing additional slip lanes on all roads leading to Budaiya Roundabout as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

The preparatory works include the extension of new services, removal and re-construction of an old building, resolution of land ownership in the area and the removal of fences that conflict with the work.

Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry Under-Secretary Ahmed Al Khayyat said in a statement that around 3,700 vehicles use this key roundabout during peak hours, and this project will reduce waiting time for drivers by around 50 per cent.

The creation of these exits will alleviate traffic congestion as right turns are currently being delayed due to the roundabout’s capacity.

This will ease movement off the main highway and Minister Essam Khalaf stressed that work will have a minimal impact on traffic as they are scheduled for during the weekend or at night.

He also added that each construction phase will be announced publicly prior to implementation.

Meanwhile, resurfacing work on Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway near Al Ahli Club will lead to the closure of two lanes for westbound traffic.

Two lanes will be provided for traffic as closure will commence starting at 11pm tonight until 5am on Saturday.
