Adnoc Offshore (previously Zakum Field Development Company) has signed up Al Geemi and Partners Contracting Company for the development of an airport runway strip integrity project at Zirku Island, within the maritime territories of Abu Dhabi.

With the front-end engineering design (FEED) work already completed by Adnoc, Al Geemi and Partners will now work on the design, construction, testing and commissioning works for the Zirku Runway.

As per the AED56 million ($15.2 million) deal, Al Geemi and Partners will complete the runway project work by February 2022, said the statement from Adnoc.

It will come up in Zirku Island within the maritime territories of Abu Dhabi and 140 km north-west of the capital city. Zirku Island is an operating base of Adnoc Offshore hosting a permanent population of around 4,000 people.

The project, which will come up on a plot area of 0.60 sq km, is a fast track and critical one as most of the associated works shall be completed during the 30 days shutdown period, it stated.

Adnoc said the project scope includes re-pavement works; taxiway A upgrade; visual aids; runway strip grading; runway strip drainage and GCAA approval.

The project execution will necessitate the transport to the island of bulk gravel, base course, bitumen and piping materials during a very short period, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
