Saudi Aramco has invited engineering, procurement and construction firms to submit proposals for its $300 million Jafurah cogeneration independent steam and power plant (ISPP) in Eastern Province, according to a source aware of the details.

The scope of work involves the development and operation of a 270 to 320-megawatt dedicated steam and power plant for the Jafurah gas field.

Jafurah is the largest unconventional non-associated gas field in the Kingdom, with a length of 170 kilometres, a width of 100 km and estimated volume of 200 trillion cubic feet of rich raw gas, according to Saudi Aramco’s website.

The oil major had reactivated the tendering process for the ISPP project in June 2021 after cancelling the initial tender in December 2020.

The bid submission deadline for proposals is set for early December 2021, the source told Zawya Projects.

The prequalified contractors list includes ACWA Power, SEPCO III, Samsung C&T, KEPCO, Doosan and Tecnicas Reunidas, according to officials from two companies.

The project is expected to be completed and commissioned by the fourth quarter of 2024, the source added.

Fichtner Consulting Engineers is the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) consultant while Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp is the financial advisor and White & Case is the legal advisor for the gas field project.
