Oman’s Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) through the OPAZ Tender Committee is expected to award the main construction contract for its Duqm Airport to Ras Markaz - Dual Carriageway Road by first quarter of 2022, according to a source.

“The main tender was issued on 25 August 2021 with the submission of the bids due on October 20, 2021. The contract is expected to be awarded by early January 2022,” the source told Zawya Projects.

The scope of work includes 51-kilometre dual carriageway all-weather road from Duqm Airport roundabout to OTTCO crude oil facility at Ras Markaz, drainage structures and embankment protection systems, lighting and control systems for all roads and eight roundabouts, according to an August 2021 report by local newspaper Oman Daily Observer.

The tender participation is restricted to joint ventures between Oman and Saudi companies, the report said.

National Engineering Office is the design and construction supervision consultant for the project.

The source estimated the project value at $300 million.
