Iraq has approved plans to build about 120 new schools in the central Babylon governorate within an ongoing nation-wide programme to reconstruct war-damaged sectors, the official Iraqi daily Al-Sabah reported on Monday.

The projects include primary and secondary school buildings, parks, playfields, laboratories and other facilities, the paper said, quoting director general of Babylon's education department Mahdi Al-Awadi.

The schools are intended to tackle crowding due to population growth and are part of 217 projects approved for the governorate within the 2019-2020 budget, Awadi said, adding that the projects cover education and other services.
