BASF Integrated Site (Guangdong) Co Ltd planned to develop BASF Zhanjiang Smart Verbund Project, in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, China. The project covers the construction of 9 square kilometer area field, 60,000 tpy engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) by 2022 and petrochemical products widely used in automotive, electronics and new energy vehicles industries. It was the largest-ever investment project of BASF. It was the first wholly foreign-funded project in China's heavy chemical industry. The project would enable BASF to meet the growing demand of its customers, particularly in the automotive, electronics and new energy vehicles (NEV) industries. The integrated value chain would connect upstream and downstream plants from basic chemicals to more consumer-oriented products and solutions, serving growth sectors like consumer goods and transportation. The site would ultimately be the third-largest BASF site worldwide, following Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium.
