Istanbul Project Coordination Unit planned to develop Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation & Emergency Preparedness Project, in Istanbul, Istanbul, Turkey. The project covered the construction of emergency preparedness, seismic risk mitigation for public facilities and project management support. Emergency preparedness consisted of provision of emergency equipment such as information technology (IT) and emergency communication equipment, water storage tanks, power generators, emergency vehicles, etc.; public awareness and training; and technical assistance to enhance emergency preparedness and responses. Seismic risk mitigation for public facilities consisted of reconstruction of about 100 public buildings such as schools and hospitals; and feasibility studies, detailed designs, and construction supervision. Project management support consisted of operational costs, consultancies, and IT and office equipment. Environmental Management Plan (EIA) of the project was published on Oct 2019. The project would improve the City of Istanbul's resilience against a potential earthquake. This would be achieved through strengthening critical public facilities for earthquake resistance and enhancing the institutional capacity for disaster risk management and emergency preparedness.
