Egypt MOT - North East and North Railway Upgrade

Background

Ministry of Transportation - Egypt plans to upgrade Banha, Qalyubia to Port Saeed and Zagazig to Abu Kebir, Sharqia railway in Egypt. The project aims to improve safety, raise the maximum running speed from 140 to 160 km/h and increase passenger and freight capacity. The project covers the upgrade of 260 KM railway consisting of replacing the mechanical interlockings with centrally-controlled electronic systems, new point mechanisms, level-crossing technology and communications infrastructure of 20 stations including other associated works. The project has been divided into two parts; 214 km railway line from Banha to Port Saeed and another 46 km line from Zagazig to Abu Kebir
