Background

SMB Winning Group is construction an alumina refinery near Dapilon port, Boké Special Economic Zone, Boke, Guinea as well as a railway to open up the Boffa corridor and to carry bauxite to the refinery and the Dapilon river port. The project comprises developing mine fields, constructing railwasy and building refinery plants. The refinery capacity would live up to 1 million tons per year and upon completion, the project would be Guinea’s first refinery. The 1 million tonne per year refinery is part of a $3 billion project to develop Guinea’s bauxite industry, the largest in Africa. It is also an integral part of the Belt ad Road Initiative in Guinea. In December 2017, SMB Winning announced that it would build a aluminia refinery plant in Boke Guinea. The project would be built over a 30-month period. The construction is expected to begin in 2019 and completed in 2022. The refinery would be powered by a dedicated power plant equipped with advanced slag processing technology in compliance with applicable environmental standards.
