ITER Orgnization planned to develop International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor Project, in Cadarache, Provence-Alpes-Cote dAzur, France. Consortium of VINCI Construction Grands Projects, Dodin Campenon Bernard SAS, Ferroval Agroman SA and Razel-Bec SAS was one construction contractor for the Tokamak Complex. Consortium of Framatome, China National Nuclear Corporation, China Nuclear Industry 23 Construction Co Ltd, Institute of Plasma Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences and Southwestern Institute of Physics was the construction contractor for the ITER-TAC1. Consortium of Assystem SA, Atkins Global, EGIS International and Empresarios Agrupados International S.A. was the construction contractor for ITER's buildings and civil infrastructures. The project covered the construction of a 500 MW fusion reactor nuclear power plant covering an area of 20500 sq.m. The project was regarded as the world's second largest international science project after the International Space Station. Upon completion, TER would be the first fusion device to produce net energy, the first fusion device to maintain fusion for long periods of time, and the first fusion device to test the integrated technologies, materials, and physics regimes necessary for the commercial production of fusion-based electricity.
