Department of Transportation and Communications planned to develop Mindanao Railway Project, in Philippines. Schema Konsult Inc, Engineering and Development Corp of the Philippines and PRIMEX were consultants of the project. The project covered three circumferential lines and four spur lines. They were:the 208 km-long Butuan-Nabunturan-Tagum line, the 285 km-long Iligan-CDO-Butuan line and the 234 km-long Digos-Iligan line. The spur lines: the 109 km-long Butuan-Surigao section in the north-east, the 141 km-long Kabacan-General Santos in the south, the 338 km-long Iligan-Zamboanga in the south-west, and the 114 km-long Iligan-Dipolog in the north-west part of Mindanao. The Tagum-Davao-Digos part was 105 km and would serve around 130,000 commuters a day in its first year. The project was implemented in 3 phases. The project responded to the Belt and Road Initiative and would promote local transportation.
