Government of Nigeria planned to develop Minna New Stadium Project, in Maikunkele, Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. Shandong Sunway Steel Building Co Ltd was the construction contractor of the project. Eurasia Global Services Nigeria Ltd was one consultant of the project. The project was originally expected to cover the construction of a 1,5000 maxium capacity stadium with 10000 seats, a 3-star 100-bed hotel, and some other supporting facilities. The project was originally conceptualized in 2008, and after that it was put on hold because of time and paucity of funds. In 2019, the government announced the project would be completed before the expiration of the administration’s tenure in 2023. The project was designed to meet the need for the state to own a modern stadium of international standards. The new stadium in Minna was to replace the ageing Bako Kontagora Stadium in the town with a 15,000 capacity for future expansion. It was developed in three phases. The first phase was the main bowl, the second phase was be for indoors and the third phase was be for hotels.
