Government of Bahia planned to develop Salvador to Itaparica Cross Sea Bridge Project, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. A consortium of China Communications Construction and China Railway 20 Bureau Group was PPP developer. The span would connect the city of Salvador in Brazil's eastern Bahia state with the resort island of Itaparica. The project, which would entail building a 12.4-kilometer bridge span over the sea and a 31-kilometer system of onshore roads. This bridge was Brazil's largest infrastructure construction project in recent years. Upon completion, it would promote the economic development of the state, increase the level of urbanization, and increase employment.
