Yantian District Government planned to develop Yantian International Offshore LNG Bunkering Center Project in offshore Yantian District, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. A Cooperation Framework Agreement was signed between Yantian District Government, Yantian Port Group, PetroChina, and Shenzhen Gas Co Ltd. The project covered the construction of an offshore LNG bunkering center with the expected short-term capacity of 230000 t/y, output value of CNY 1.2 billion per year; and the expected long-term capacity of 2000000 t/y, output value of CNY 10 billion per year. The project would use 8000-10000 cubic meter LNG bunkering vessels to supply chilled fuel to customers including large container ships in the short-term. This project would become China's first international offshore LNG refueling station and was an effort to cut greenhouse gas emissions, develop low-sulfur bunker fuels and green shipping. It aimed at improving LNG filling services in China and promote sectors such as energy and shipping in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as attracting more international LNG-fueled vessels to berth at Chinese ports.
