Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project

Oyo State Government planned to develop Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project, in Ibadan, Oyo, Nigeria. . China Gezhouba Group was the construction contractor. The project aimed to improve the capacity of Oyo State to manage flood risk and to respond effectively and promptly to flooding in Ibadan. It included 3 components. The first part was flood risk identification, planning, and preparedness. The second part was flood risk reduction. The third part was project administration and management support. The project would implement flood control programs of four rivers and they were located in Cele Rainbow and Ogbere Pegba (both in Oluyole LGA) and OlaAdua and Sasa Osajin (both in Iddo LGA). The construction work included widening, reshaping, and lining of full-section concrete of four river channels (about 15 km in total) in the urban area of Ibadan; leveling of government land on both sides of the rivers; reconstruction and afforestation of cross - river box culverts and bridge culverts; footpath, installation of leisure facilities. The project was an important municipal project to improve the people's livelihood. After the completion of the project, it would further improve the flood control and drainage capacity, providing public leisure places for the citizens.
