Background

Ministry of Construction planned to develop Yangon-Mandalay Expressway Upgrade Project in Yangon, Myanmar. Yooshin Engineering Corp would be in charge of the bidding preparation work as well as the detailed design of phase 1. The project was planned to be developed in 2 phases under a PPP model. It covered the upgrade work of the existing 524 KM Expressway from Yangon to Mandalay. It would be upgraded from the existing double direction 4-lane expressway to an 8-lane concrete road with other upgrade works including the installation of traffic flow detection systems on both sides of the road, the installation of camera monitoring devices, the construction of isolation railings, etc. The upgrade was expected to reduce traffic accidents and enhance driving comfort. The expressway also served as a major access road between China and India by functioning as the Asian Highway 1 of the Asian Highway network.
